Welfare Manager
overview
As the Welfare Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the emotional and physical wellbeing of our students and staff, and providing logistical support to the Centre Manager in areas such as catering and rooming.
You will oversee a team of Welfare Officers whose role is to be on hand to respond to any issues that might arise relating to accommodation, behaviour, and general well being are dealt with in a compassionate yet professional and efficient manner.

Working as a Welfare Manager was an exciting new challenge after performing the roles of Activity Leader and Welfare Officer in previous years. It was stressful at times - monitoring dietary requirements is a huge responsibility and you never know when an A&E visit might happen! But the diversity of the role, and having involvement in every aspect of the centre, made it a hugely satisfying experience

Key responsibilities:
You will be directly responsible for several crucial key areas in the running of the centre
You’ll be expected to:

Ensure any students with dietary requirements are getting the appropriate meals

Record any accommodation issues and liaise with our host school to ensure these are actioned
-
Have an oversight of the rooming list and an awareness of where every student is staying

Oversee fire drills in conjunction with our host school

Salary
£700* per week
Holiday Pay
12.07% holiday pay will be added to your salary.
Travel Allowance
£30 one off payment to help towards the cost of travel to and from the centre.
Working Hours
Up to 44 hours per week based on 6 working days.
Reporting to
Centre Manager
Locations
York, Uppingham, Edinburgh, Rugby, Bedales & Cheltenham.
Available Contract Dates
Temporary - April, July & August 2025
Pre-joining training dates
Staff are required to attend 2 x paid training days in advance of joining any programme.
You will have a team of Welfare Officers who are often "on call". It is your job to identify when an extra set of hands may be needed and deploy them as necessary.
For example:

A first aider may be required during a sport session

A Group Leader needs assistance taking a student to a pharmacy or A&E

The Academic Manager needs help in locating students absent from class

A group that has just arrived needs someone to deliver a campus tour

Group Leaders are our clients and will be quick to let management know if they are dissatisfied with anything! You will always need to be friendly and diplomatic in your interactions with them.
As Welfare Manager, you will often be the person who hears any concerns first - it's imperative feedback is passed over to the relevant team and actioned as quickly as possible.

Along with your Welfare Officers, ensure quiet times and curfews are adhered to.
Staff Welfare
Summer schools are intense environments and Dusemond's own staff may need support or mediation at times. Having an awareness of how everyone is getting on and giving staff opportunity to air any concerns is crucial in maintaining a positive work environment.
Safeguarding
We are all responsible for students' safeguarding, but along with the Centre Manager you will be responsible for escalating any concerns as necessary.
